Welcome

Welcome to Protoceratops.org our website about a herbivore (plant-eating) dinosaur that some scientists believe inspired the legend of the griffin (a mythical beast which was said to have the head and wings of an eagle, but the body and legs of a lion).

Protoceratops was a herbivore (planting-eating) dinosaur that lived during the late Cretaceous period, between approximately 85 and 80 million years ago. Protoceratops was typically sized around 6½ feet (2 meters) long, but some adults grew as large as 9 feet (2.7 meters).

Protoceratops is immediately recognizable by its relatively large head, beak-like jaws, the frill around its neck, but the absence (unlike many of its relatives) of horns on its face. Although Protoceratops did not have horns, it did however had bony knob on its snout.
